Year 10
 
Democracy - An introduction to different political systems and a particular focus on the various elements of our democracy; voting systems and issues, MPs, Lords, the monarchy, pressure groups and protests.
 
Human Rights - A close look at the UNDHR, the work of Amnesty International, human rights issues both locally and globally.
 
Economic Citizenship - Understanding personal finance, taxation and issues such as inflation.  Also includes a look at global institutions such as the IMF and World Bank and issues like Fairtrade.
 
Global Citizenship - Understanding how issues such as the environment, the world economy and conflict are dealt with by the EU, the Commonwealth, Nato and the United Nations
 
Model United Nations - A day off timetable where all Year 10s represent United Nations delegates and partake in a mock General Assembly.  This day is supported by lesson time before and after the event. 
 
Year 11

Society - Understanding some of the key issues in society and how we are affected by them.  Topics include crime, (youth crime, drink related crime, hate crime) what it means to be British, privacy (CCTV, i.d cards.) The emphasis of this unit is to use topical news stories.
 
Politics - Understanding political ideology, party policies and spin.  The unit encourages pupils to create their own political parties, this includes delivering speeches, making leaflets and filming a political broadcast. 
 
Key Stage 4 Dp (Personal Citizenship) - 1 lesson per cycle
 
8 different modules delivered over the Key Stage that covers 3 subject areas;
 
Enterprise - Employment rights, interviews, writing a CV, preparing for work experience.  This is supported by an Enterprise Day for the whole year group, delivered by an outside agency that teaches business and management skills and promotes the idea of corporate social responsibility in a Dragon's Den style competition.

 
PHSE - Sexual health, mental health, drugs and alcohol education
 
Spiritual and moral education - Ethical theory, applied ethics - relationships, marriage (arranged, forced) honour killing, euthanasia.
