We believe that every pupil and student in our school is entitled to a PE curriculum that serves their individual learning needs.  We realize that we cannot cater for every choice but we aim to give you a balanced and broad PE curriculum which you will enjoy.

Our aim is that when you leave this school you will have a positive attitude towards sport, health and fitness and that you will continue to be an active and healthy citizen in your community.

The P.E department will provide opportunities for students to be physically active in a safe learning environment. Pupils must follow the following policies for health and safety reasons:

  • Students must remove all jewellery (including piercings) during P.E lessons, and they must lock these away in their lockers. Staff can not take any responsibility for lost items when using the department's facilities.
  • **** All piercings must be done over a six week holiday to give it time to settle. Students will be asked to remove the piercings for PE lessons.
  • It is recommended that all piercings are done during the Summer holidays - this is to give the piercings time to set. Students will be asked to remove all piercings (regardless of whether they are set or not) to participate in lessons - taping or covering piercings with a plaster is insufficient.
  • (#) White sports socks must be visible when worn with trainers (they must not be ankle socks or football socks)
  • (^) Students must wear studded boots (either moulded/plastic studs/blades or full metal studs) to participate in both rugby and football lessons.
  •  (+) Pupils also need to wear predominantly white trainers that support the body effectively. This means that students will not be able to wear plimsolls, velcro, astroturf or fashion trainers.
  • In cases of severe winters, students are allowed to wear Anglo European School tracksuits, black woolly hats and black gloves during lessons, with the discretion of the Head of Department.
  • If students need to wear a top underneath their P.E kit, it must be white. However, pupils can not wear any items of clothing underneath their shorts/skorts including cycling shorts.
  • If students (boys or girls) have long hair which may interfere with their vision during a lesson, they must be prepared to tie it back and bring necessary equipment to do so.
  • It is extremely important for students to have their own sun protection during the summer term. In cases of severe summers we have 'Hot weather warnings' and 'Hot weather procedures' in place.
  • ****All long hair - boys and girls - must be tied back for Health and Safety reasons with the necessary hair equipment.

Inclusion Policy

The school promotes a positive attitude to a healthy lifestyle and encourages all students to actively pursue this through curricular and extra-curricular opportunities within the Physical Education Department.

All students are required to participate in a number of roles in lessons and should always bring their PE kit to lessons, except in a very few circumstances, students will always be required to wear training kit. Where students have been ill or have a medical condition, the teaching staff will modify activities as appropriate, which in many cases can assist in the recovery process from injury or illness. We expect parents to support fully the curriculum followed by the school, which includes a statutory requirement to follow a course in Physical Education.

Students will only be withdrawn from activities upon recommendation from the Head Teachers after their medical situation has been assessed. In cases of chronic long-term injuries, a doctor's certificate is required.

The Physical Education Department makes every effort to work with parents to ensure that all students receive their entitlement to physical education and that full attention is paid to our duty of care towards children.
